OpenAI
OpenAI was founded in 2015 and develops large-scale artificial intelligence systems. It is privately held and structured unusually, with a capped-profit arm operating under the oversight of a non-profit parent.
Its products are sold both directly, through consumer and business subscriptions to its assistant products, and indirectly, through an API that lets other companies build on its models. Much of its compute is supplied through a long-running commercial relationship with Microsoft.
For businesses across Brimco’s readership the practical question is not whether these systems are impressive but what they cost, what they can be trusted with, and which jobs inside a company they actually change.
